Csaba Horváth
marine officer, yachtmaster

I have graduated from the Maritime Academy of Technical University, Budapest, Hungary in 1985 with high qualification. I have been working for Hungarian Maritime Co. as third and second mate of seafaring cargo vessels, while I qualified for wireless radio officer as well. I was sailing the Mediterranean Sea and the three oceans from the North Polar Circle to Celebes and Japan; I was sailing mainly on the eastern hemisphere.

I started of dinghy sailing on Lake Balaton when I was teenager… or maybe earlier. I completed my first yacht trip at sea from Gibraltar to Sicily and Malta, and then to Pula in Croatia in 1992 after 10 years of official marine service. Since then I am sailing several weeks in every year; I was the skipper of a Monaco based offshore 86’ maxi racer “Sandokan” in 1994. While I was the lecturer of the Sailing Academy in Győr I have post graduated from the Technical University. I was working for one of the first sea sailing club called Nautica Club. I organized the first nautical courses for pleasure boaters to be qualified for coastal and offshore sailing at sea.

Having no any sailing handbook in Hungarian language, I have started compile my own book titled Yacht navigation at that time. This handbook became larger and larger and continuously expanded during the years, added more & more chapters from the nautical sciences. After some issues finally it was published on CD in 1998, then in 2002 the Alexandra Publishing House dumped the more then 1000 pages in two volumes, titled Jachtnavigator I-II. Besides the theoretical nautical courses I run practical trainings as well, summer in the Adriatic, around Corsica in the early and late months of the year. I am lecturer in the József Gál’s nautical school – he has circumnavigated twice the globe. His school works under the rules of the UN Economic Commission for Europe Inland Transport Committee Working Party on Inland Water Transport Resolution 40 – International Certificate for Operators of Pleasure Craft, and the trainees receives their pleasure craft certificates from the Hungarian Sailing Association.

I was sailing many beautiful seas of the world, besides the Med – Baleares, Sardinia, Corsica, Sicily, Malta, Tunis and the Adriatic of course – I have seen tropical areas, like most of the Caribbean islands, Seychelles or Tahiti. Also, I enjoyed the sea breeze in the UK, France and Finnland. I tasted the tall ship sailing on board of ducht flagged bark Europa. In the last 30 years I have sailed more the 200 000 nautical miles – by commercial vessels and by yachts.

When I am at home I deal with nautical literature as translator and book publisher. My own book Jachtnavigator is under revision now and will be published in four volumes soon (450-500 pages each). I edit and publish the Hungarian version of the Adriatic Ports - a sailing guide for yachtsmen (888 Häfen und Buchten + 1000 GPS Wegepunkte from the German author Karl-Heinz Beständig) in every second year. I have written and published the Port of Balaton sailing guide in 2009. I have translated a dozen of books for Alexandra, additionally I translated the latest book of the worldwide known sailor Jimmy Cornell titled A passion for the Sea. I am proud I can be a friend of him!

See my translated books here.

I am 48 years old, married and have three children. Albeit we are living in Budapest, I spend a lot of time at sea and the Lake Balaton and we all love and respect the Nature!

for leisure boaters was really successful in the last years. The book - which was published in two volumes last time - will be published again in the near future.
